I am deeply saddened by the loss of many precious lives, and the tremendous damage to civilian life in the Republic of Korea caused by the record-heavy rain. On behalf of the Government and the people of Japan, I wish to express my sincere condolences about the loss of life and send deepest sympathies to the bereaved families. My thoughts go out to all those who were affected by this disaster and I sincerely hope that the affected areas such as the North Gyeongsang Province will make a swift recovery to their former state.
